The Idaho Senate on Tuesday approved 18-17 a bill… (SB 1140) that would expand people planning services offered subservient to the state’s Children’s Vigour Insurance Program and Medicaid Pregnant Women and Children program, the Spokane Spokesman-Review reports (Wright, Spokane Spokesman-Judgement, 3/2). The expanded services would provide for diagnosis, treatment, contraceptive supplies, counseling, and restricted sterilization for low-income women ages 19 and older and guardians of children who qualify as far as something a woman of the two programs. The services would not give abortion coverage. Country Sen. Shawn Keough (R), who co-sponsored the legislation with affirm Rep. Margaret Henbest (D), said the bill would cost $212,000 in its first year and $300,000 the newer year, and Medicaid would cater 90% of the funding. Some antiabortion advocates oppose the legislation because some funding might indirectly support clinics that attend to arrange for abortion services (Kaiser Quotidian Reproductive Well-being Report, 2/25). The bill then advances to the state House, where supporters expect a “close” vote, according to the Spokesman-Review (Spokane Spokesman-Review, 3/2).
